Diabetes Mellitus - Definition, Causes, Symptoms and Treatment

Diabetes can be caused by too little insulin (a hormone produced by the pancreas to control blood sugar), resistance to insulin, or both. Diabetes is a chronic condition. DM exhibits wide geographic variation in incidence and prevalence Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder caused by an absolute or relative deficiency of insulin, an anabolic hormone. Diabetes mellitus is defined as a fasting blood glucose of 126 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) or more. There are two basic forms of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes mellitusformerly known as insulin-dependent diabetes (IDDM), childhood diabetes or also known as juvenile diabetes, is characterized by loss of the insulin-producing beta cells of the islets of Langerhans of the pancreas leading to a deficiency of insulin. It should be noted that there is no known preventative measure that can be taken against type 1 diabetes.

Type 2 diabetes appears most often in middle-aged. Diabetes causes many changes in the body. Neuropathy (damage to the nerves) affects sensation to the feet, so that pain is not felt. Diabetes affects approximately 17 million people (about 8% of the population) in the United States. In addition, an estimated additional 12 million people in the United States have diabetes and don't even know it. Diabetes is the third leading cause of death in the United States after heart disease and cancer. Males are at greater risk in regions of high incidence, particularly older males, whose incidence rates often show seasonal variation. People with diabetes often develop bacterial and fungal infections, typically of the skin. When the levels of sugar in the blood are high, white blood cells cannot effectively fight infections. Diabetes is a major risk factor for stroke and coronary heart disease, which includes heart attack.

Serious medical illness and surgery produce a state of increased insulin resistance. Controlling your blood sugar is essential to feeling healthy and avoiding long-term complications of diabetes. Diet, exercise and weight reduction should be the cornerstone of management. The treatment of markedly symptomatic patients with newly discovered type 2 diabetes and glucose levels >400 mg/dL is controversial. Medications used to treat diabetes include insulin. Medications such as thiazides, used to control high blood pressure, and niacin, used for high cholesterol, also may increase blood sugar. Everyone needs regular aerobic exercise, and people with diabetes are no exception. The good news is that the same exercises that are good for your heart and lungs also help lower your blood sugar levels. Drugs and foods known to affect the CYP3A4 system need to be used cautiously in patients treated with atorvastatin, lovastatin, or simvastatin because these agents are largely metabolized through that system.

How To Develop A Better Golf Swing

Developing the perfect golf swing is a science that is put down to pure physics. In a nutshell what you want to happen is for the club to swing back on the swing plain, this mean going back in a straight direction in line with you target. From here you want to continue swinging back until your wrists cock, where the club should be parallel with the ground. This is the end of the back swing. From here you want to lead your down swing with the hips and make sure that your club and club face follow through on the swing plain, swinging off the swing plain with clause you to hit a draw or fade. Lastly as you follow through you must keep your head down and continue the momentum of your swing going until your swing has fully finished. Ok so how do we put this all together.

Firstly before we look at the back swing lets look at how you are going to address the ball before you swing. Normally what you want to hit your lowest clubs, your wedges off the middle of your stance and as you move up your clubs slightly move the ball forward in your stance. This should be done until you will have the ball been hit off somewhere between the inside of your front foot and your toe for your driver. The reason you want to this is because your low iron have such a high loft and since they have such a high loft you want to hit them striking downwards so that you dont catch the ball thin and hit the ball with the right trajectory. Obviously as you move up the clubs the lofts get lower so you want to hit the ball more on the up.

Ok so once we have got a hold of this we can than start to swing the club. So as I said before when performing the backswing we want to make sure that the club stays on the swing plain and that you cock your wrist once your club reaches parallel with the ground. To make sure that the club stays on the swing plain, insure that when you swing back you swing straight back and that you do not over rotate your hips, over rotating your hips will cause you to draw the club around your body and when you end up swinging through the ball you will hit a draw.

So next we want to unwind and perform the downswing, this is where all the build up of power from the backswing is released so that we can accelerate the club through the ball and generate the power to hit the ball. One of the most important things about performing the downswing is that you lead it with your hips, you do not want to try and generate the power to hit the ball with your arms, your arms a merely a tool for grasping the club. All the power that you generate to hit the ball should come from you hips. This is imperative for insuring a good golf swing. Along with this it is also important to keep your club swinging along the clubs swing plain and inline with your target. This will insure that you hit the ball straight and not hit a draw or fade.

Lastly we want to perform the golf swings follow through. Basically in the follow through what you want to continue to insure is that your club remains on the swing plain, your head stays down through the ball and that you fully let the power of your golf swing unwind. You do not want to interrupt your swing half way through your follow through; doing this will affect your downswing and may result in you not hitting the ball cleanly. To sum up these are a few tips that should be able to put you on the right track to developing a good golf swing and in the more wider sense developing a better golf game. I hope this help and happy golfing.

Get a Tax Credit for Using Renewable Energy in Oregon

Oregon has always been known as an environmentally conscious state. To this end, you can even get a tax credit for using renewable energy.

Get a Tax Credit for Using Renewable Energy in Oregon

Residents in Oregon can claim a Residential Energy Tax Credit if they use renewable energy systems. The tax credit can be claimed by both homeowners and renters, a scope not found in most states.

To qualify for the Residential Energy Tax Credit, a homeowner or renter must convert to a clean energy system in one of the following areas:

1. Appliances,

2. Heating systems,

3. Cooling systems,

4. Ventilation or Duct Stems,

5. Closed-loop geothermal system for space heating or water heating,

6. Solar thermal heating,

7. Solar electrical generation through solar panels,

8. Wind power production,

9. Use of fuel cells, and

10. Hybrid fuel vehicles.

The amount of the Renewable Energy Tax Credit depends on the particular area in which you pursue clean energy platforms. Highlighted amounts are:

1. Solar Systems Nope, not the planetary system. Instead, you can claim up to $3 per peak watt for your system with a cap of $6,000. Please note, however, that you can only claim up to $1,500 a year, but can carry the credit forward to following years. For solar platforms used to heat structures and water, the tax credit is 60 cents per kilo-watt hour with a cap of $1,500. The same applies to wind systems, fuel cell platforms.

Unlike other states, Oregon will give you a tax break for heating your pool. Clean energy pool heating systems such as solar are eligible for a tax credit equal to 15 cents per kilo-watt hour of saved energy compared to a traditional heating system. There is a cap on the system, which is 50 percent of the total cost or $1,500. Still, this represents a major savings over programs offered in other states.

2. A closed loop geothermal system is one in which circulating fluid remains in the piping without exception. They are typically used to cool and heat homes. If you convert to such a system, you can claim a tax credit of $300 to $900 depending on the type of system.

3. Appliances are often the biggest energy wasters. If you purchase an appliance approved by the Oregon Department of Energy you can claim a tax credit equal to the amount indicated by the department or 25 percent of the net cost of it. Sorry, but you have to take the lesser amount.

4. Clean energy heat pump systems can garner you a tax credit of $300 to $500. Note, however, that you must have it installed by a licensed contractor.

5. Hybrid vehicles are all the rage these days. If you have one in Oregon, you can claim a tax credit of $750. This is on top of the tax credit you get from the federal government as of January 1, 2006.

Oregon has always been known as a green state. Financial incentives in the form of tax credits bear this out.
